Qanat

Keeping life cool

Qanat is developing an electricity-free storage solution that keeps a three-month insulin supply at a safe temperature using a controlled chemical reaction. Our goal is a low-cost, robust device that NGOs can distribute to patients in remote and low-resource settings.

ABOUT US

Insulin must stay cool to remain effective, but many people with diabetes in hot climates lack reliable refrigeration. Power outages can last days, fridges break down, and existing alternatives such as evaporative pouches fail in humid conditions.Qanat started as a semester project at ETH Zurich and has grown into a mission to make insulin storage safe wherever it’s needed. We’re currently looking for NGOs, clinics, and diabetes organizations interested in pilot testing and feedback.

We are actively seeking humanitarian NGOs, regional clinics, and diabetes advocacy organizations to evaluate our prototypes and collaborate on field pilots.
